Introduction: Bangladesh may be a land of villages. There are about 87,000 villages in our country. quite 85 per cent of our population sleep in villages. So, it's clear to us that the event of Bangladesh entirely depends on the prosperity of the villages and therefore the villagers.


Definition of rural development: Rural development refers to a planned change towards the development of the economic and social life sort of the agricultural poor. this is often done through increased production, equitable distribution of resources and empowerment.


Various aspects of rural development: There are various aspects of rural development. Agriculture, education, communication, health and sanitation, employment, empowerment etc. are the foremost important aspects.

Agriculture: Agriculture is a facet peculiarly related only to the rural environment. it's the lion’s share in our economy. But the farmers and therefore the farming types of equipment aren't up-to-date in most cases. So, farmers should be trained well and modern farming types of equipment and seeds should be made available within the villages. Besides, the irrigation system, the supply of fertilizer, pest management, agricultural loan etc. should be considered with care and revised where necessary.


Education: About 85% of our population sleep in villages. Again, about 85% of our rural population are illiterate. there's an acute shortage of faculties and colleges in our rural areas. So, to teach our rural population, sufficient educational institutions got to be found out. Besides, every possible assistance should be made to market education among the agricultural poor. Because, without eradicating illiteracy, rural development will remain nothing but a mere dream.


Communication: During the recent times, many roads, bridges, culverts etc. are inbuilt in many villages of Bangladesh. Thus, these villages are brought under a moderate communication system. Yet, in most cases, the communication system needs to be developed. New infrastructure should be built and therefore the existing should be managed well or repaired where necessary.


Health and sanitation: Poor health and sanitation remain a drag rampant in rural areas of Bangladesh. pollution, lack of awareness, lack of nutrition etc. are causing sufferings to rural people. So, proper steps should be taken to make sure development during this field.


Employment: The farming community remains idle for almost half the year. Besides, there are tons of individuals who are landless and jobless. So, sufficient employment opportunities for this sort of individuals should be created.


Empowerment: Empowerment or more economic and political power to the agricultural masses to regulate the utilization and distribution of their resources should be ensured.


Steps were taken by the govt: The govt. . has taken a variety of programmes for rural development of Bangladesh. Though there's a financial constraint, the govt with its limited resources and foreign aids is trying its best to uplift the quality of our villages. The govt. is playing a really significant role in the overall development of all villages of the country. the main governmental rural development projects include the vulnerable group development, Thana Resource Development and Employment project, Rural welfare work programme, community development programme, self-reliance programme for rural women and technologies for rural employment. The government’s current rural development policies main emphasis is on employment-oriented growth, greater citizen participation in development activities, greater cooperation between public and personal sectors, specialised programmes for rural poor women, ethnic minorities, children and therefore the elderly people.


Taken steps by NGOs: The voluntary and personal organizations, more popularly referred to as the Non-Government Organizations (NGO) cover a wide selection of rural development activities including those- oriented towards the development of income and employment, health and sanitation, agriculture and rural craft, vocational training, relief and rehabilitation, birth control, mothers and child care. variety of NGOs have achieved national and international reputations through ‘micro-credit model’ notably Grameen Bank, Proshike, Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee. Manobik Unnayan Kendra, Rangpur Dinajpur Rural service and Gono Mukti Kendra. So, NGOs are playing a crucial role in the event of all villages.


Conclusion: For the event of our country, rural development is that the precondition. It is often translated into action if the govt. also because the intelligentsia comes to the fore and joins hands for the development of the villagers.
